Plan the fit, record every reading, then follow the product-specific instructions for the final order size.
01
Identify the opening
Photograph the whole window, recess, architrave and sill. Open the window and record handles, winders, locks or flyscreens that could affect the shutter.
02
Choose the mount and frame
Decide whether the shutter sits inside the opening or on the surrounding face. Check the exact frame profile and usable depth needed for louvres to rotate and panels to open.
03
Measure the opening
Record widths at the top, middle and bottom and heights at the left, centre and right. Check diagonal measurements and note uneven reveals. Do not average the measurements.
04
Plan divisions and rails
Mark the window divisions, intended panel layout, hinge directions and midrail positions. Identify where measurements are taken from, particularly when a sill or frame is involved.
05
Confirm the final order sizes
Use the exact frame-specific My Direct instructions for allowances and order dimensions. Bay, corner or unusual openings need their own drawing and review before an order is submitted.
