Overview
Panels divide the opening and determine how the shutter swings open. Wider windows need more than one panel to stay within manufacturing limits. Where practical, align the shutter joins with the window's existing vertical divisions.
How will my panels be configured?
One panel can hinge left or right. A pair can meet with an overlapping edge to reduce the visible join. A fixed T-post supports adjoining panels and can align with a window mullion.
Choose the layout using both the glass divisions and the space needed to swing panels open. The diagrams show the different meeting and hinge arrangements.
How many panels?
Opening width and permitted panel size determine the available layouts. As a guide, an individual panel can be approximately 900 mm wide, and overall openings above about 950 mm generally need multiple panels. Double-hinged arrangements have smaller panel limits.
Fewer panels mean fewer vertical lines, but narrower panels need less swing space. Check taps, benches, furniture and walls before choosing the hinges.
