Installing Plantation Shutters into Brick

Overview

Masonry needs fixings suited to the substrate and accurate drilling. Mark the frame position first, then keep it supported and square while securing it. Do not rely on surface plaster alone to carry the shutter.

Choose the right fixing

Identify the masonry type and use fixings rated for that substrate and load. Do not substitute a timber screw without the correct anchor arrangement. Follow the fixing manufacturer's requirements.

Mark before drilling

Hold the frame in its confirmed position, check alignment and mark each fixing point. Check for hidden services before drilling and avoid placing holes where the substrate is unsound.

Drill accurately

Use the specified masonry bit and hole depth for the chosen fixing. Keep the hole straight and remove dust as instructed before installing plugs or anchors.

Pack and tighten gradually

Pack behind the fixing positions where masonry is uneven. Tighten progressively and recheck the frame so a screw does not pull it into a hollow or bow a straight section.

Re-check the panels

Hang the correct panels and check their movement after the frame is secured. Make alignment corrections before fitting finishing caps or strips.
