Measure for panel glide blinds

Find your fit. Record the right dimensions. Check before you order.

Before you measure

Use a metal tape measure, pencil and worksheet. Record width first, then drop, in exact millimetres (mm). Do not round, use a cloth tape or copy dimensions from house plans. Measure every window separately, even when windows look identical.

If measuring with someone else, repeat each reading aloud as it is written down. Check every measurement and order detail twice, then a third time. For ordinary recess measurements, do not make factory deductions yourself. Special-window instructions must be read with the product guide; ask us to resolve any conflict before ordering.

Plan a face fit

Use face fit for the current Panel Glide product. Recess fitting is not recommended: stacked panels occupy a large part of the opening. Panel glides suit sliding doors and a floor-length finish. Face fit gives space for the stack, helps privacy and light control and can hide an uneven opening.

Where architraves are present, fix the brackets directly to them. The supplied face brackets do not project far enough to mount on the wall above a projecting architrave. Check handles, switches, shelves, furniture and where the wall ends.

For a ceiling-mounted room divider or another non-standard arrangement, contact us to confirm a suitable system before measuring or ordering.

Measure width and stack space

Start with the width between the outer architrave edges. Extend the track at least 300 mm on the stack side and at least 100 mm on the other side. Panels are typically 500-1000 mm wide; to clear the glass as fully as possible, increase the stack allowance beyond the panel width, if the wall allows.

The track can extend past the architrave while its supporting brackets remain fixed to the architrave. Check the full planned span for obstructions. For centre opening, ask us to confirm the allowance on both stack sides rather than applying a one-way allowance blindly.

Without architraves, use the same stack planning. If full glass clearance is not needed, allow opening width +400 mm overall: +300 mm on the stack side and +100 mm on the other. Check the available wall space.

Measure drop

With architraves, measure from their top to the chosen finish. For a short window without a projecting sill, extend 50-100 mm below it. For full height, measure to 10 mm above the floor. The ordered measurement includes the track.

Without architraves, measure from opening top to the chosen finish and add at least 70-100 mm for mounting above the opening. Check obstructions and upper wall clearance.

Check the panel width before ordering

Allow 70 mm panel overlaps. To calculate the panel width: add (number of panels – 1) × 70 mm to the finished track width, then divide the whole result by the number of panels.

For a 3000 mm track and four panels: three overlaps ×70 mm =210 mm; 3000 +210 =3210 mm; 3210 ÷4 =802.5 mm. Ask us to confirm whether the production panel size will be 802 mm or 802.5 mm, and how rounding is applied, before relying on a tight stack clearance. Do not round your window readings.
