Measure for bonded and padded pelmets
Find your fit. Record the right dimensions. Check before you order.
Before you measure
Use a metal tape measure, pencil and worksheet. Record width first, then drop, in exact millimetres (mm). Do not round, use a cloth tape or copy dimensions from house plans. Measure every window separately, even when windows look identical.
If measuring with someone else, repeat each reading aloud as it is written down. Check every measurement and order detail twice, then a third time. For ordinary recess measurements, do not make factory deductions yourself. Special-window instructions must be read with the product guide; ask us to resolve any conflict before ordering.
Measure the outside-box width
Check space beyond both sides. Over a recess blind with architraves, measure outer architrave edge to outer edge and add 60 mm overall, allowing 30 mm beyond each side. Without architraves, measure opening width and add the same 60 mm.
Over a face-fit blind, measure its exact bracket-to-bracket width, or use the width entered for a new face-fit blind, then add 60 mm. Check that the returns clear the architrave; most face-fit blinds run to its outer edges.
Choose the projection
Projection is the outside-box depth from the wall into the room. The pelmet roof sits above the architrave and its returns go around it. These allowances assume an architrave lip projecting 20 mm from the plaster. If yours projects more, choose the next size or request a custom projection in checkout notes, such as 130 mm. Pelmets on one wall usually look best with matching projection.
80 mm: any recess blind. 100 mm: a popular recess choice, or a face-fit 25 mm aluminium Venetian. 120 mm: face-fit single roller or face-fit Venetian. 150 mm: our double rollers or a face-fit single curtain track. For another supplier’s double roller, verify its actual projection. 200 mm: a face-fit vertical, double curtain track or panel glide.
