Measure blinds for half-glass and French doors
Find your fit. Record the right dimensions. Check before you order.
Before you measure
Use a metal tape measure, pencil and worksheet. Record width first, then drop, in exact millimetres (mm). Do not round, use a cloth tape or copy dimensions from house plans. Measure every window separately, even when windows look identical.
If measuring with someone else, repeat each reading aloud as it is written down. Check every measurement and order detail twice, then a third time. For ordinary recess measurements, do not make factory deductions yourself. Special-window instructions must be read with the product guide; ask us to resolve any conflict before ordering.
Measure the glass and check the handle
These methods apply to single roller and Venetian blinds fixed onto a door. Measure the glass, then add the appropriate coverage below. Check the door width, frame, handles and opening path; an obstruction may require an adjusted width or another product.
For all products below, add at least 100 mm to glass height: 50 mm above and 50 mm below. Check that both additions fit on the door.
Single roller blinds
Request the smaller 32 mm clutch and tube in checkout notes for door mounting. Add 50-100 mm overall to glass width. A 50 mm addition gives approximately 8-10 mm fabric overlap per side; add more if the door permits.
The ordered width is bracket to bracket. Fabric is about 20 mm narrower at the chain end and 12-15 mm at the pin end. Under-roll is recommended for smaller light gaps if the handle permits; fabric projects about 10 mm from the door, while the full blind and brackets project about 80 mm.
Venetian blinds
For 25 mm aluminium, add 20-100 mm overall to glass width; projection is approximately 45 mm.
For 50 mm aluminium, PVC or timber Venetians, add 20-100 mm overall to glass width; projection is approximately 70-80 mm depending on the fascia. Adjust for door-frame size and handles.
