Measure blinds and pelmets for corner windows
Find your fit. Record the right dimensions. Check before you order.
Before you measure
Use a metal tape measure, pencil and worksheet. Record width first, then drop, in exact millimetres (mm). Do not round, use a cloth tape or copy dimensions from house plans. Measure every window separately, even when windows look identical.
If measuring with someone else, repeat each reading aloud as it is written down. Check every measurement and order detail twice, then a third time. For ordinary recess measurements, do not make factory deductions yourself. Special-window instructions must be read with the product guide; ask us to resolve any conflict before ordering.
Choose the through blind
This guide applies to roller, Venetian and vertical blinds. One blind runs through; the other butts into it. Usually choose the front-facing window, or the side needing most privacy, as the through blind so the meeting gap is less visible. Rotate a printed diagram to match your room if useful.
Label the window as a corner window on the order. Put controls on the outer edges, away from the join, for access and a suitable child-safety fixing location. Read the individual product guide as well.
Recess corner windows
Confirm product depth. A cardboard template can help; the corner template illustrates a single roller at 75 mm, while standard and bay templates use 70 mm. Keep these different measuring contexts in mind and ask us to confirm if clearance is tight.
For the through roller blind, measure the full inside recess width at the top. For other through blinds, measure top, middle and bottom and use the smallest. Measure the butting width from the inner corner to the outer recess edge. Measure each drop left, centre and right and use the smallest.
The factory applies corner recess deductions; the blinds sit flush with the reveal front. An optional further 3 mm deduction may apply where depth is tight. Do not apply that exception without confirming your measurements with us.
For non-roller blinds with tiles or splashbacks, use the narrower width between them. For corner rollers, use top width when a tile projects no more than 12 mm into the recess, and the narrowest tiled width when it projects more. This is a per-side projection rule, separate from the standard roller’s 24 mm total-width comparison. Send unequal tile projections or uncertain cases for checking.
Face-fit corner windows
Measure each side from the corner to the outer architrave edge along the fixing face. Add any outer-edge extension required by the product guide. Deduct the following amount from the BUTTING blind width only; do not deduct it from the through blind.
Single roller: 85 mm. Double roller: 100 mm. Timber/PVC Venetian: 80 mm. Aluminium Venetian: 40 mm for 25 mm slats, or 80 mm for 50 mm slats. Vertical: 103 mm for 89 mm vanes, or 135 mm for 127 mm vanes.
For separate straight curtain tracks butted at a corner, deduct the bracket projection (use the smallest setting for adjustable brackets), then another 5 mm. The track can be cut with a hacksaw if needed. This is not the measuring method for a continuous curved curtain track; use its separate guide.
For a butting blind inside a corner pelmet, deduct another 5 mm. Example: a 2000 mm through roller stays 2000 mm; a 2000 mm butting roller becomes 2000 -85 =1915 mm. Use the product’s own drop instructions.
Corner pelmets
Check at least 35 mm of spare space beyond each outside architrave edge. Measure each leg from the inner corner to its outer architrave edge. Add 30 mm to each leg where space permits. Deduct the pelmet projection (80, 100, 120, 150 or 200 mm) from the butting pelmet only.
Example: 1400 mm +30 mm =1430 mm for each leg. With a 100 mm projection, the through leg stays 1430 mm and the butting leg becomes 1330 mm. In the illustrated arrangement, A has a right return and no left return; B has a left return and no right return. Confirm the mirrored arrangement against your own plan.
Send a photo if space is restricted or the corner is unclear. For bay pelmets, send a plan drawing and request the specific measuring instructions.
