How much do blinds and curtains cost? A 2026 guide

Blinds and curtains are priced by size, product, fabric and controls. This guide shows what moves the price and how to build a real budget for your home.

How much do blinds cost? It depends on the product, the size of the window, the fabric, the controls and any extras, so the most reliable answer for your home is the number a configurator shows for your own measurements. A general range would be wrong for most windows, so this guide explains what moves the price and how to build an accurate budget for your whole home in an afternoon.

In short

  • There is no single price. Blinds and curtains are priced from your width and drop, the product, the fabric and the options you pick.
  • Each product's Build & Order configurator shows the price before you order, using your measurements.
  • Size, layering, motorisation and add-ons such as fascias and cassettes are the biggest levers. Measuring and installing yourself removes labour cost.
  • Build a window-by-window budget from configurator prices rather than from averages.

How much do blinds cost? What sets the price

Made-to-measure products are priced from the details of each order. Price steps up as the width and drop increase, and it changes again with each choice you make.

What you choose How it affects the price How to keep control of it
Size (width and drop) Larger windows use more fabric and bigger hardware Measure accurately, and enter real sizes rather than rounded-up ones
Product A roller blind, a curtain set and a shutter are built differently Match the product to the room's job
Fabric The range you choose can change the price Use blockout where you need it and light filter or SunScreen elsewhere
Controls Chain, cordless and motorised are different mechanisms Use motors where they earn their place
Fit and extras Fascias, cassettes and pelmets are extra items ordered with the blind Pick only the options you need
Layering A double roller or double curtains is two layers on one window Layer where the day and night jobs really differ
Installation Hiring a fitter adds labour; measuring and fitting yourself does not Follow the product's guides
Delivery and offers Delivery is shown at checkout; Spend & Save applies automatically Order together where it makes sense

In each configurator you enter your measurements, choose fabric and controls, and see the price before you order, so you can compare choices before you commit. Prices and offers change over time, so the configurator always shows the current figure.

Some things come at no extra charge: D-mould on every shutter panel, flat base rails in White, Black or Silver on panel glide blinds, and the upgraded gear-drive clutch on roller blinds over 2500 mm wide.

How much do curtains cost?

A curtain is a length of fabric gathered by its heading, so the fabric needed is a multiple of the track width. That multiple, called fullness, runs from about 2.0 to about 2.75 times the finished width. You do not calculate it yourself; you give the track width and the drop.

The main price drivers for curtains are:

  • Track width and drop. Wider and longer windows use more fabric.
  • Heading. S Fold, Pencil Pleat, Double Pinch Pleat, Triple Pinch Pleat and Inverted Pleat each use fabric and hold it differently.
  • Fabric. Sheer curtains in Cassis, Cassis Volume or Bali, or blockout curtains in Galaxy or Epic.
  • Track type. Designer is a plain straight profile, Half Moon has a curved front edge and costs a little more, and Motorised adds a motor.
  • Layers. Lined curtains have a blockout lining sewn behind the sheer. Double curtains run a sheer and a blockout on two tracks.
  • Curved tracks. Bay and corner windows use curved or box and bay tracks.

So how much are sheer curtains? Enter your track width and drop in the curtain configurator, choose a heading and fabric, and the price appears. Our guide to curtains explains the options.

Are blinds cheaper than curtains?

As a rule, yes. A roller blind is a single flat piece of fabric on a tube, while curtains need extra fabric for fullness, a track and often a lining. That means blinds usually cost less than curtains for the same window.

The rule breaks when you change the specification. A double roller blind, a motorised blind or a blind with a fascia can cost more than a plain curtain. A small window may barely show a difference at all. Compare like for like in both configurators, and read blinds vs curtains for the non-cost differences.

How much are electric blinds?

Motorised blinds cost more than chain or cordless versions because you are adding a motor and control. The price is the blind itself plus the motor type and any accessories.

Motorised blinds add a motor, a remote and sometimes a hub to the price

There are three routes:

  • Battery motor. Rechargeable and DIY-friendly, needing no mains wiring. One motor drives one blind, and linked blinds need a motor each. You also need a charger.
  • Hardwired motor. A licensed electrician does the wiring. It can drive up to three linked blinds with a combined width of up to 6 m.
  • C-Bus. For an existing C-Bus system. It needs an electrician and does not use the RF remote or hub.

Remotes come in 2-channel and 16-channel versions, and a compatible smart hub is optional, adding app control, scenes, timers and voice control through Alexa and Google Home. If several blinds share a channel, they move together, which can mean fewer remotes.

Warranty is part of the value: hardwired motors have 5 years and battery motors have 3 years. Our motorised roller blinds page has the detail, and the motorised blinds guide explains how to choose.

What about plantation shutters?

Shutters are priced on the same principle, using the size of each opening plus material, frame, panel layout and delivery. Timber and PVC are different materials, and frames, T-posts and midrails all shape the order. Ordering runs through a quote and Expert Review, which is a paid check. Delivery is not covered by the flat blind and curtain fee, so it is the amount shown for your actual order. Our guide to plantation shutters cost goes through it in detail.

Build a whole-home budget in five steps

The most accurate budget is the sum of real configurator prices, not an average. The cost of blinds per window is simply the configurator price for that window's size, fabric and controls.

  1. List every window by room and label each one.
  2. Choose a product and fabric type for each window using the room's job (privacy, glare, view).
  3. Measure each window with the product's guide, using our measure guides.
  4. Enter each window in the configurator and write the price beside the window.
  5. Add up the totals, then review options that you could change.

Use a worksheet like this one:

Window Product Width x drop Fit Fabric Controls Price from configurator
Bedroom 1 Roller blind Face Blockout Chain
Living room Double roller Recess Screen + blockout Cordless
Kitchen Roller blind Recess SunScreen Chain
Dining Curtains Ceiling (top fit) Sheer Wand

Tip: Fill in the table for every window before you change anything. Then adjust one choice at a time, such as fabric or controls, and note how the total moves.

Ways to keep the cost down

  • Measure and install yourself. Our model is that you measure and install, so there is no fitter's labour in the order. Hardwired motors are the exception, because they need a licensed electrician.
  • Use blockout where you need it. Bedrooms and media rooms benefit most. Light filter or SunScreen may do the job elsewhere.
  • Choose controls by use. A motor earns its place on a large, high or hard-to-reach window. A chain may be fine on a small one.
  • Order together. For blinds, curtains and pelmets, delivery is a flat fee per order rather than per item, though regional and oversized exceptions may apply. Check the delivery page.
  • Look at current offers. Spend & Save discounts apply automatically on eligible orders, with no coupon. See the Spend & Save page.
  • Sample before you order. Free samples help you avoid an expensive colour mistake.
  • Compare like for like. Compare the final delivered price on the same product and fabric type. Our Price Beat Guarantee applies to a lower final delivered price from an eligible Australian competitor on a like-for-like product.

Do not economise on measuring, on fit or on safety. A cheaper product that is the wrong size costs more in the end, and for children's rooms a cordless or motorised control is a better place to put your budget than a chain. If you would like a step-by-step approach, read how to buy blinds online.

Questions

How much do blinds cost?

It depends on the product, size, fabric, controls and options, so there is no single figure. Enter your measurements in the product's configurator and you see the price before you order.

Are blinds cheaper than curtains?

Usually, because a roller blind uses less fabric and simpler hardware than curtains with fullness. A layered setup or a large window changes that, so compare both in the configurators for your own window.

How much are electric blinds?

The price depends on the blind plus the motor type, remote and optional hub. Hardwired and C-Bus motors also need a licensed electrician, while battery motors need no mains wiring.

How much are sheer curtains?

Sheer curtain prices depend on track width, heading, fullness, drop and track type. Enter your measurements in the curtain configurator to see the price for your window.

Does installation add to the cost?

It does if you hire someone. Our model is that you measure and install, which removes that line, but hardwired motors still need a licensed electrician.
